Escape from Planet Earth (2009) – Feature Animation Film

Position and/or Responsibilities:
Lead FX and Effects Developer
Responsible for the FX pipeline related to MAYA side. Since we decided to split the pipeline between Maya and Houdini, I wrote all the necessary tools to move data between the two. I did an extensive job in the field of Look Dev for most of the Rigid Body and Volumetric effects we had based on the film story scripts. I, with my Supervisor selected, interviewed and trained juniors in order to make them ready to produce quality FX on a per shot basis and understand our pipeline and tools

In most of the shots I worked as an Effects Animator and in some others as an Effects Developer. I was able to develop my own system and procedure to accomplish specific tasks in specific shots. The kind of FX I delivered range from: ‘impactDust”, impactSmoke, impactSnow’ to: ‘water. splash, foam, bubble’, and a complete FOG system based on particles and shaded with the Animal Logic full volumetric rendering engine.

I restructured from scratch the 3D Department, choosing Hardware, Software, People and defining and developing a full pipeline and methodologies for 3D Animation and FX. The participation in the above listed projects started from ‘Preproduction’ and then went through the ‘shooting board’ and on Set Supervision, arriving to ‘post-production’ and in some cases to the final compositing phase. I always worked in close contact with directors and clients.

I worked at the realization and supervision of the Full Motion Video for the videogame ‘DRUUNA’ take from the comics by ‘Paolo Eleutero Serpieri’. My contribution, besides the technical one, has been also to the decisions concerning the final apparence of the Full Motion Videos. I was also involved in the improvement of the modeling process, character rigging setup and for lighting setup.
